why i became a coach
I lost my mum at 16 during the first term of sixth form. I didn't have family to talk to or lean on and I went from a child to an adult overnight. This change affected the course of the next few years - my grades, my ability to learn, choices I made, moving away to University, my experience at Uni and the next few years afterwards. Without a mentor, someone I could lean on and ask questions to I saw how important consistent, healthy influence is on young people. I took a job where I ended up being a mentor to the younger staff there. My manager was the one to point it out - the fact they lent on me for advice and guidance, the way they took onboard what we spoke about, the range of subjects they felt safe to bring to me. I realised I had a particular skillset for working with young people. I begun a career in SEND education where I expanded my knowledge and honed my skills with additional needs and then moved into coaching young people affected by trauma as a Child Sexual Exploitation Practitioner. This was the turning point. I found young people just needed someone who could relate to them and offer advice free from bias. I knew how to connect with them and I got a lot of positive feedback on how they had benefited from my input, so in 2024 I decided to start my own coaching business for young people and families to offer an alternative way of facing challenges and difficulties, especially for children that may not suit talking therapy or counselling and I've met some amazing people so far on this journey
my work today
I have had the pleasure of working with families and young people all over Horsham, Crawley and Mid Sussex over the last 2 years. I've met some amazing people and done some really great work. I've had parents message me with questions about subjects they don't know enough about to help them cover it with their kids, I've even had grandparents take sessions to learn about what's new these days and what they need to be made aware of! I love every second of helping protect and empower young minds through my work and I look forward to helping many more in the years to come
what's next?
So this year I expanded into Home-Schooling offering specialist subject help for parents on their home education journey to make sure subjects that are often forgotten are covered in an age-appropriate and informed way. I have also become a regular part of some home educated children's learning by completing sessions myself as a regular, safe and trained adult to talk to about difficult subjects. Parent mentorship whilst home educating is super important to me, so I offer ongoing support to parents to help guide you through tough, but important, subjects. I have also recently begun to work with Colleges and local provisions to offer some Outreach Life Coaching for students that need it most which is absolutley incredible.
